Part 1 — Who is wearing what? (5 marks)

   “Everybody says the monkey is the cleverest. But I don't think that's right. I think the dolphin is cleverer.” What other people say is not what Fred thinks.
3. What will Lucy take with her tomorrow? B
   “I won't need my scarf either. I'm going to the lake to swim, so I'll take my swimsuit.”
4. Which is the hottest place Mark has visited? A
   “But Arizona was even hotter. Arizona is the hottest place I've ever been.” Antarctica was the coldest, not the hottest.
5. How many teeth has Anna's little brother got now? B
   “He only had six last month. Now he's got sixteen!” Six is last month's number. Listen for now.

Part 5 — Listen and colour (5 marks)

Part 1 — Find the differences (5 marks)

1. 1. In picture one the sweater is red, but in picture two it is blue.
   Listen for: two colour words in one sentence, joined by 'but'
2. 2. In picture one it is sunny, but in picture two it is raining.
   Listen for: weather words — 'sunny', 'raining'. Accept 'there is rain'.
3. 3. In picture one there are two birds, but in picture two there is only one bird.
   Listen for: 'there are' with a plural, then 'there is' with a singular
4. 4. In picture one there is a scarf on the chair, but in picture two there is no scarf.
   Listen for: the word 'scarf', and a negative — 'there is no' or 'there isn't'
5. 5. In picture one the cat is on the bed, but in picture two the cat is on the chair.
   Listen for: the preposition 'on', with the right piece of furniture each time

Part 2 — The cat and the kite (4 marks)

1. 1. A cat was sitting under a tree, and a kite was flying in the sky.
   Listen for: the scene set — a tree, a kite, the sky
2. 2. Then the wind blew very hard, and the kite flew into the tree.
   Listen for: a joining word — 'then', 'next', 'after that' — and a past tense verb
3. 3. The cat climbed up the tree because it wanted to get the kite.
   Listen for: 'climbed', and a reason with 'because' or 'to'
4. 4. The cat got the kite down, and now it is very happy.
   Listen for: an ending — the story is finished, not just abandoned

Part 3 — Which one is different? (3 marks)

1. 1. The apple is different, because you eat an apple, and you wear the other three.
   Listen for: 'because' and a real reason — the NAME alone is only half the mark
2. 2. The kite is different, because the other three are weather, and a kite is a toy you fly.
   Listen for: the word 'weather' as the category, not four separate words
3. 3. The hat is different, because the other three are animals, and you wear a hat.
   Listen for: 'animals' as the category, and 'wear' for the hat

Part 4 — Now some questions about you (5 marks)

1. 1. My favourite weather is sunny, because then I can play outside.
   Listen for: a reason with 'because' — a one-word answer is half a mark
2. 2. When it is cold I wear a coat, a scarf and my boots.
   Listen for: two or more clothes words in one sentence
3. 3. I think the dolphin is the cleverest, because it can learn things quickly.
   Listen for: a superlative — 'the cleverest' — not 'clever'
4. 4. Last weekend I went to the park and I rode my bike with my friend.
   Listen for: past tense — 'went', 'played', 'rode'. Present tense here is the thing to correct.
5. 5. My school bag is bigger than my friend's bag.
   Listen for: a comparative with 'than' — the whole point of Unit 8
